[Google Reviews 5.0] Mino Washi Craft Experience in the Udatsu Historic Townscape|Perfect for a Spring Trip to Mino, Gifu (Japan)
Thank you as always for reading our newsletter^^
[As of March 6, 2026] Google Reviews: 5.0/1,230 reviews (updated regularly)
Around this time of year, we hear a lot about graduation ceremonies, don’t we?
It seems a nearby high school has already announced entrance exam results, and it made me think, “Wow, it’s that season already,” as I found myself reminiscing about my own school days.
When I graduated from junior high, I felt the sadness of being separated from friends I’d been close with for years,
and at the same time, excitement about a new chapter came rushing in all at once—it was strangely restless…
A complicated time: you want to act a little more grown-up, yet you’re still figuring everything out.
A sweet girl we’re close with in the neighborhood is graduating this year too—how did her results go, I wonder?
I’m sure she’s more excited than nervous… but still, my heart races a little. I can’t help feeling jittery myself^^
Now, here are this week’s updates.
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
Our shop is a hands-on Mino Washi craft experience where you can “touch, choose, and create.”
While learning about the charm and heritage of Mino Washi, you can make one-of-a-kind dolls and Japanese paper goods souvenirs—perfect for inbound tourism, cultural gift shops, and anyone who loves Japanese crafts.
From the texture of washi paper, the joy of choosing colors and patterns, to the fun of shaping your own style—this is a five-senses Japanese culture experience you can truly enjoy.
The workshop is located in the heart of Mino City, inside the famous Udatsu historic townscape (Udatsu no Agaru Machinami).
You can experience crafts inside a preserved Edo-period building featuring an udatsu dated 1760, in a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
From solo travelers to groups of up to 50 people (about one tour bus), we can accommodate crafting at the same time.
For groups larger than 50, we recommend splitting into a town-walk & shopping team and a workshop team for smoother itinerary planning.
Couples, friends, families, group tours, corporate trips, school trips, and incentive travel—everyone can share a memorable time together.
Our craft menu includes Washi Korokoro roly-poly dolls, washi uchiwa fans, washi earrings, washi plates, washi pen holders, washi bookmarks, and more.
You can follow the sample design—totally fine.
You can also arrange it intuitively—also fine.
Or you can tailor it to your favorite vibe or character—absolutely welcome.
Why not create a one-of-a-kind souvenir that’s uniquely yours?
We offer 30+ DIY kits—so you’re sure to find something you’ll want to make.

[This Week at the Shop] During Lunar New Year season, we welcomed a group tour from Taiwan^^
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
Again this year, we welcomed many tour guests from Taiwan to our workshop during the Lunar New Year season^^
After staying at a hotel near Nagoya, they enjoyed a Mino Washi craft experience at Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd.,
then headed to a nearby ryokan to taste local Mino cuisine before traveling on to Shirakawa-go and Takayama.
We’re truly happy that travelers choose to include time in Mino like this as part of their Japan itinerary.
Many guests from Taiwan speak Japanese, and they enjoyed friendly conversations with us—mixing simple Japanese and gestures, all with warm smiles.
They nodded along to our explanations, showed their creations to each other, and laughed together—filling the shop with a bright and lively atmosphere^^
Everyone creates differently—some work carefully and slowly, while others finish boldly and quickly.
Each finished piece has its own unique expression, becoming a wonderful result that reflects the maker’s personality.
In the end, some guests happily photographed their work, told us “It was so fun,” and even left Google reviews.
If our time together at Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd. becomes one of your travel memories, nothing makes us happier.
We will continue welcoming not only guests from Japan but also visitors from overseas, with heartfelt hospitality—so you can feel the charm of Mino Washi and the joy of Japanese craftsmanship^^

Featured Picks: Full Boys’ Day (May) lineup is here! Disney is almost sold out
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
■ Boys’ Day items are lined up throughout the shop! Hariko, chirimen, and Mino Washi products—how about bringing Japanese seasonal décor into your home?
At our shop, we’ve transitioned from Hina dolls to a full lineup of Boys’ Day (May) items.
This season’s highlight is definitely this “kabuto” helmet display!
A chirimen kabuto decoration in a gentle light blue that feels calm and soothing^^
Our products use plenty of chirimen fabric and washi—lightweight, durable, and made to last.
The size is also practical for modern homes—easy to display and easy to enjoy.
We also have new hariko items and the “May Tiger” available.
Displaying a hariko tiger in May is a traditional lucky charm, wishing for boys’ healthy growth and strength.
The tiger symbolizes “strength,” “warding off misfortune,” and “growing up safely,”
carrying the wish: “May you grow strong, brave, and healthy.”
Please come see the actual items at our shop^^

■ Disney items|Limited to 30 pieces, while supplies last (no restock planned)
Disney items have joined our Washi Korokoro series.
The cute, rounded shape pairs perfectly with the gentle texture of Mino Washi—very popular in-store too.
And here’s the important notice. This time, these items are:
• Limited to only 30 pieces (ends once sold out)
• While supplies last (no restock planned)
• Orders have already been placed, and some characters are already “almost sold out”
If you’re thinking “I want it!” please come soon.
You can see the real item in-store and purchase it on the spot.
Perfect as a travel memory or a gift.
Come meet the adorable Mickey and friends in Washi Korokoro form♪
If you’re thinking, “I’m curious about Disney and Hina dolls too…!”
please compare them side by side in-store.

~~~ Disney Product Introduction ~~~
A round and charming Mickey Mouse.
The material, Mino Washi, is a traditional Japanese paper with over 1,300 years of history.
Its roly-poly figure that stands back up no matter how many times it falls brings to mind Mickey as a “full-of-energy” character.
Mickey Mouse’s brightness—bringing smiles across generations—blends with the warm feeling of washi.
This auspicious item is made using craftsmanship passed down at Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd., founded in 1902.
Mayu “Mino” Diary|First time golfing—why did every shot fly the opposite way!?
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
The other day, we joined the “Mobile Junior Golf Class” hosted by the Gifu Golf Federation.
The venue was Hosenbo Golf Club in neighboring Minokamo City.
It was my daughter’s first time trying golf.
When we arrived at the registration area, there were kids everywhere—sunglasses, golf outfits, and even their own clubs.
It was a totally “serious golfer” vibe.
Overwhelmed by the atmosphere, my daughter whispered, “Maybe we should stop…”
Apparently, we were the only parent-and-child pair there for the first time.
We were grouped with another parent and child—my daughter’s classmate.
They’ve attended the junior class many times,
and the pro coach teaching that day was “their usual teacher,” too.
The class flow was: putting golf → driving range → a 1-hole course experience.
Even as a beginner, my daughter practiced hard while listening carefully to the coach.
When things didn’t go well, the coach gave a quick one-point tip.
She adjusted her form just a little.
And somehow, little by little, the ball started to fly farther and straighter.
Finally, it was time for the 1-hole course experience.
For my daughter, it was her very first course debut.
The Hosenbo course felt longer than expected.
Honestly, my first thought was:
“This… might take 20 strokes?”
We started from the red ladies tee.
My daughter and her friends started together.
But then, every ball flew in a different direction—beautifully different.
The coach’s advice was super clear,
yet the result was somehow always the “opposite direction.”
“Avoid the bunker—it’s tough if you land there.” …straight into the bunker.
“The course gets narrow here, so don’t hit it OB.” …a direct line toward OB.
“Hit it imagining it will land and roll to stop on the green.” …it sailed right past the green.
Then came the final putt.
“When aiming for the cup, tap it so gently you think it’s too weak.” …it rolled right past the cup with ease—rolling and rolling and rolling.
The adults watching were nervous, while the kids giggled nonstop.
Still, there were moments like “Oh! That was a great shot!”
and the girls looked like they had a wonderful time.
The final result was 17 strokes, 18 strokes, and 19 strokes.
They beat our “20 strokes” prediction,
and the adults somehow cheered with a slightly strange feeling of “Phew… good(笑).”
The pro who taught us, Pro Kawamura,
works as a club professional,
and also coaches a high school golf team and serves as a pro caddie at tournaments.
He was very friendly, and it was impressive to see how he taught while making the kids enjoy themselves.
My daughter was nervous at first, but by the end she was all smiles.
Her first golf experience felt like a small adventure day^^
