Group Visit Report: Big smiles making “My Uchiwa” fans—kids age 4 joined with joy!

Recently, a community organization that usually promotes sports to children chose our “Mino Washi Craft Experience: Uchiwa Fan Making” as the highlight of their summer sleepover program.

Their coordinator visited in advance to review the flow of the day.

They came from Gujo; before the workshop, they stopped at a roadside station for a restroom break.

They then arrived by microbus (large tour buses cannot enter, but microbuses can load/unload at our storefront—useful for tour operators).

This time we hosted 30 children from kindergarten to elementary school, plus 9 accompanying teachers.

At first the children sat quietly, but soon the engines were at full throttle.

Using cut-out and die-cut papers, they created whatever inspired them.

・Some made Japanese-style dolls

・Some assembled kimono patterns inspired by popular anime

・Some drew smiling faces on stars

・Some lined up sheets of gold paper

Each completed an uchiwa that makes you smile just by looking at it.

The teachers couldn’t stay seated either—they were busy cheering on and advising the kids. We felt how warm and close-knit this organization is.

Even though I introduced myself as “Call me big sis!”, by the end some children were calling me “Coach!”—which made me smile.

We wrapped up with a commemorative photo, everyone holding their fans.

Ishikawa Paper Goods is located right in the center of the Udatsu townscape of Mino. Our store welcomes you inside a renovated house that has been in use since the Edo period—a designated property within the nationally protected district (built in 1760).

Inside the shop, we display a world map and a Japan map, and invite visitors to place a sticker on their home country or hometown.

As the number of stickers grows, it becomes instantly clear how far Ishikawa Paper Goods’ Mino Washi craft experiences have spread. Watching the map fill with color excites both staff and guests—international visitors, family travelers, and Japan tour groups alike.

◆ JAXA’s SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) becomes an Okiagari-Koboshi!

Our Washi Korokoro dolls are auspicious roly-polies that stand back up no matter how many times they tip over—a “fall down seven times, stand up eight” charm.

We received a request to portray SLIM’s lunar landing as a roly-poly figure—and the Washi Korokoro version was born. ^^

By realizing SLIM, humanity will shift from landing “where it’s easy” to landing “exactly where we want.”

Future solar-system exploration will require more advanced instruments. To allocate more resources to those instruments, we must lighten spacecraft systems.

SLIM aims to achieve pinpoint landing technology and a compact, lightweight spacecraft system—contributing to future lunar and planetary exploration.

Our Hometown, Mino City: Cool Down the Summer Heat — Uchimizu Splash Campaign!

In midsummer Mino City, the sun blazes down.

On one hot day, a lively uchimizu (water-sprinkling) event took place along the historic Udatsu townscape!

We heard participants could get free yukata dressing for the event, so my daughter and I joined. ^^

My daughter wore a cute yukata with refreshing light-blue and pink flowers—light blue (yukata) × pink (obi)!

I chose a chic design you rarely encounter—navy (yukata) × yellow obi with a black lining!

And it turned out my combination matched exactly with the woman I personally thought was the most stunning model that day!

Huh?! I guess I had no choice but to be her supporting cast. (^^;

We also had about 20 participants—yukata-clad high-schoolers, cheerful elementary school kids, and their moms!

All the models smiled brightly in colorful yukata,

and the sight of them tossing water with buckets—“Here we go!”—was adorable. The photographers went wild!

Shutter clicks echoed through Mino’s streets like a movie scene.

Looking closely at one girl,

she was wearing our “Washi earrings.”

Mayu “Mino” Diary — Spectacular! Over 1,100 performers playing in a fife-and-drum parade. We joined the offering performance again at the Children’s “O-Jiba-gaeri.”

One of my daughter’s biggest summer joys is “Natsu no Kodomo O-Jiba-gaeri.”

This year again she joined the fife-and-drum corps organized by our local Tenrikyo community.

“Kodomo O-Jiba-gaeri” is a summer tradition since 1954. Children from across Japan and overseas gather in Tenri, Nara (Oyazato) for experiences that nurture the heart.

The most dazzling highlight is the mass march and performance by fife-and-drum corps from all over the country—the Fife-and-Drum Parade.

This year, a stunning total of 1,163 participants performed.

She served as a cheer member with pom-poms, dancing to the same tune she’s learned since second grade.

Under the sun, her confident smile and the sounds of flutes, melodicas, cymbals, and snares blended into a wave of excitement that swept the venue.

After the show, hearing “That was amazing again!” and “Let’s do it next year too!” among the team was unforgettable.

The sense of achievement after training in the summer heat is a special moment just for the kids.

After the parade, they enjoyed hands-on events, volunteer clean-ups (Hinokishin), and on the final day a visit to the Nagas

～山下の山～　お世話になります。メルマガ担当の山下（やました）です。

そういえば、山下のハマっている物が残っている事に先程気付きました。

その名も、リアル脱出ゲーム。名古屋大須のとあるビルまるごとゲーム会場なんですよ。ついこの前も、遭難した雪山を舞台に参戦してきました。段々と冷えていく会場、唯一あるのはたった一つのテント。真夜中という事もあり真っ暗なテントの中には、一つのリュックサック。かじかむ指に、人数よりも少ないランプだけが頼りの綱。そして、頼りない半袖ワンピースの山下。アドレナリンだけでは耐えられない寒さに凍えているのか謎が解ける快感に震えているのか、最後の問題に挑む。タイムリミットは残り5分。それを過ぎたらタイムアウト。そして、最後の一つの謎は解けず。流石の山下も凍死しておりました。死因は、半袖ワンピースだと思います。実際、雪山で遭難したら山下は駄目そうです。冬の山には行かないでおきます。
