Join us inside an Edo-period building (constructed in 1760, featuring an authentic “udatsu” firewall) for a Mino-Washi craft workshop together!
From solo travelers to groups up to 45 guests (about one tour bus), you can enjoy hands-on workshops at the same time.

Two months have passed since we began displaying zodiac (eto) ornaments at the Mino Washi Paper Craft Experience Shop.
They’re loved not only by customers who purchase them every year, but also by first-time, walk-in visitors.
At our head office, our sales team works together to handle wholesale orders and inquiries from clients, as well as online sales.
Thanks to everyone’s support, stock is running low and more items are selling out.
We got curious and looked into it a bit.
Why do people in Japan display zodiac animals?
Displaying an ornament of the year’s zodiac animal has long symbolized welcoming good fortune as a guardian for the new year.
Originally it was one of the New Year’s decorations to welcome Toshigami-sama (the deity of the year),
with the meaning of “honoring the year’s zodiac brings wishes for happiness and prosperity.”
When and where to display them
It’s considered good to start displaying from mid-December, after the big year-end cleaning.
By displaying them for the year, you prepare to welcome Toshigami-sama and invite good fortune for the new year.
Zodiac figurines are auspicious items that “invite good fortune.”
Place them in clean, bright, and easily visible spots.
Recommended locations
・Entrance: the doorway that invites good luck
・Living room: family harmony and well-being
・Home altar or tokonoma alcove: a sacred place
・Reception or counter at offices/shops: business prosperity
In feng shui, placing them toward the year’s “eho” (lucky direction where Toshigami-sama is said to reside) is considered especially auspicious.
2026 is the Year of the Horse.
The horse symbolizes “good luck in contests,” “health,” and “moving forward.”
It’s the perfect charm for anyone who wants to gallop into a vibrant new year.
Traditionally, after one year you bring the ornament to a shrine for “otakiage” (a ritual burning) to express gratitude,
but in recent years more people carefully store them and display them again each year.
Handmade Mino-Washi zodiac dolls and hariko (papier-mâché) carry the craftsperson’s spirit,
and collecting a little each year is part of the fun.

Our Hometown, Mino City — Autumn Colors at “Sukeemon’s Maples”

The “Sukeemon’s Maples” in the Nagase district of Mino City are entering their most beautiful season again this year.
It’s said that a paper wholesaler, Mr. Takei Sukeemon, planted seedlings he brought back from Arashiyama in Kyoto during the Meiji era, and that’s how these riverside maples began.
For roughly 150 years, local residents have cherished and cared for this beloved autumn landscape—a symbol of Mino.
Around 30 maple trees along the river reflect on the water. By day, enjoy the contrast of clear autumn skies and crimson leaves; by night, a magical, illuminated scene.
This year’s light-up runs from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 30.
Lights are on from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
On Saturday, November 15, there will also be an afternoon event.
Please come see these beautiful maples, which show different expressions by day and night.
Access: about 20 minutes by car from Mino IC.
Free parking is available, making it convenient for sightseeing by car.

Mayu “Mino” Diary — Warm, Smiley Halloween

This year again, local volunteers gathered children and held a Halloween event.
Even as neighborhood association events slowly decline, this Halloween tradition continues every year here, evolving in hosts and format.
About 20 children arrived in their own favorite costumes.
Adults brought sweets; those who couldn’t attend entrusted them to the organizers, and treats were handed to the kids one by one.
Participation for children was free. The community’s warmth filled their paper bags.
Children happily cradled armfuls of sweets,
and the expressions of the townspeople watching them were as gentle as lantern light.
“These children are part of our community.”
“Those kind neighbors are the ones who gave us treats.”
I think these small layers of memory are what connect people to people.
I hope this sense of connection will continue in our town through events like this.
It was a heart-warming moment on an autumn night. ^^
