A word from the staff - “Yamashita’s Mountain”

Thank you for your continued support. I’m Yamashita, the newsletter editor.

It all started with one line: “Hey, wanna try making clothes?”
 To fulfill our desire to make at least one outfit this year, my friend and I launched a DIY “working adults club.” With only two members, we went to Otsukaya.

Did you know?
Otsukaya is that famous fabric store - so big it sells fabric across an entire building. Even some Tokyo tours include “all-you-can-pack fabric” events and explanations by the president.

I may have exaggerated the storytelling, but the tours and explanations are real. I saw it on TV recently and was amazed. Ladies buying huge bags full of fabric, and regular visitors sightseeing the store. Everyone looked so alive - I honestly wanted to know what they were going to make.
No, seriously - it’s so much fun. It’s not just fabric; they sell all kinds of sewing and craft parts too. Time just disappears. If you have hobbies like model building or fishing, you can imagine it: walls filled with “treasure.”


We stayed there for three hours that day.


“I wanna make a yukata!” “I want this fabric but what would I even use it for?” “I want to make a skirt but can’t decide the material!” - after all that, what we ended up with was yarn and embroidery. Why?

Apparently, Friend A has a half-finished cardigan. When I asked, it turns out they have about three unfinished projects.

Hey now, sister - don’t keep starting new things! Hearing that, even I ended up buying embroidery thread because I wanted to try lace crochet. After getting home: let’s crochet.


Looks like we won’t be able to start making clothes within this year.
