Good-luck ceramic omikuji “Sarubobo” — Nagachika Kanamori version!↓
 https://www.ishikawa-shigyo.com/news/detail_2163.html
 What is Sarubobo? ▼
A traditional folk doll from the Hida-Takayama area of Gifu Prefecture. The name combines “saru” (monkey) and the local dialect word “bobo,” meaning baby. Resembling a baby monkey, Sarubobo has long been handmade by mothers and grandmothers and given to daughters and grandchildren as a charm to wish for safe childbirth, fertility, matchmaking, protection from misfortune, and family harmony. The classic color is red, but in recent years different colors have been associated with meanings such as good fortune with money or健康—making it a beloved souvenir as well.
Learn more about Sarubobo here (Takayama City website)

 Who is Nagachika Kanamori? ▼
A Sengoku-era samurai who served Japan’s three great unifiers—Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu—and helped build the foundation of Hida Takayama. While active on the battlefield, he was also renowned as a tea master. He is known as the “founder of Hida Takayama,” having developed Takayama Castle and the castle town, improved highways, and advanced local industries to enrich the region.

 About Sangawaya (Official website)

We received a request from Sangawaya to create Nagachika Kanamori merchandise, and our team planned the product concept and production.
Reimagined in the form of the traditional Sarubobo folk doll, Kanamori has been “revived” for today!
The front features the name “Kanamori,” and the back carries the Kanamori family crest.

Now on sale at Sangawaya to great acclaim!

In response to many requests to bring back discontinued Washi Korokoro items,

we’re renewing the line & developing brand-new Washi Korokoro products!

First up: the “Summer Trio” animals (penguin, polar bear, whale shark).

A new hands-on experience is planned to launch at the workshop shop from Golden Week!
Yamashita is working hard on development to be ready for the GW launch.

We plan to offer both finished products and DIY experience kits.

 〇 Why we recommend it

The Mino Washi used as the material is a traditional Japanese paper with over 1,300 years of history.

The way it rolls back up again and again even after falling over brings to mind Mickey’s energetic spirit. The brightness of Mickey Mouse—who has delivered smiles across generations—blends beautifully with the warm, tactile feel of Washi. This is a celebratory, good-luck item created with the craftsmanship passed down at Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd. since 1902.
