★★★ The 6th RiaBiz — High School Mock Entrepreneurship Grand Prix ★★★
Gifu Prefectural Gifu High School: The outstanding achievements of 【Sense☆Ii-ne】!!
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…
“RiaBiz” is a Grand Prix where selected high school teams from across Japan run a business in a short period—handling planning, product development, PR, sales, accounting, and final presentations—within a limited budget (¥300,000).
It is held annually, and this year marks the 6th event. Out of 84 applicant teams nationwide, only 8 teams (!) passed the first screening.

Our company supported the students of the mock business “Sense☆Ii-ne” from Gifu Prefectural Gifu High School, selected for this year’s RiaBiz.

【RiaBiz】Sharing the appeal of Mino Washi with the world! 【Sense☆Ii-ne】Company introduction (video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh7Lgr3SrSY
What’s amazing is that, based on a hand-dyed Mino Washi fan, they devised a gimmick to “enjoy a fresh fragrance anytime,” and developed the product “WAKOSEN -WAKOSEN-.”
Because the sales launch was after the peak summer demand season for fans, we professionals worried it might be difficult to sell out… However, they exceeded expectations—making their own sales visits, opening new retail channels, and even taking on face-to-face selling. They successfully sold out. After closing their accounts, they will present their results at the final presentation event on December 21.
Including how they set the price range, chose sales methods, and ultimately achieved a sell-out, we as a Mino Washi processing company learned a great deal from Gifu High School’s “Sense☆Ii-ne,” and we strongly feel these insights will help us improve Ishikawa Shigyo’s future product planning, development, and sales strategies.
With a desire to contribute to the growth of Mino Washi, we visited Gifu High School and held a post-sales results meeting with the “Sense☆Ii-ne” students and their advisor, Mr. Kato.
Their expressions during the RiaBiz period and after completing their accounts were like those of entirely different people. We were deeply impressed—not only by their business skills, but also by their growth as individuals.
“WAKOSEN -WAKOSEN-” is simple: a quick spray of fragrance oil onto hand-dyed Mino Washi. Every time you fan it, you can enjoy a refreshing, brand-new sense of fresh fragrance again and again. The scents are “Sakura” and “Hinoki.”
Together with a cool breeze, “WAKOSEN -WAKOSEN-” instantly creates a comfortable “Japanese wa space”—a truly excellent product.

Based on results from consignment sales in the gift/souvenir industry in the first term, they revised pricing. For short-term sales success, they switched in the second term to face-to-face selling that could fully convey the appeal of “WAKOSEN,” leading to a complete sell-out.
As professionals in Japanese goods sales, we were strongly impressed by their enthusiasm, passion, flexibility, and execution—and we learned a great deal that we hope to apply to Ishikawa Shigyo’s own planning, product development, and sales.
Our company participates as one of the processing-paper representatives in the “Mino Washi Brand Value Enhancement Study Group,” and we felt inspired and encouraged for the future of local industry and Gifu’s traditional crafts by: (1) young people choosing “Mino Washi” for a national mock entrepreneurship grand prix, and (2) their dedicated efforts to carry out planning, development, sales, and accounting through to completion.
They said the reason they chose Mino Washi was a hands-on papermaking experience they had in 4th grade at the “Mino Washi no Sato Kaikan.” We couldn’t be happier to hear that.
It was an experience that truly made us feel glad to do this work. To all the “Sense☆Ii-ne” students and Mr. Kato, their advisor—thank you very much.
The 6th RiaBiz — High School Mock Entrepreneurship Grand Prix final presentation event will be live-streamed on YouTube on Sunday, December 21.

We sincerely wish you all the best and continued success.

★★★ The 1st Mino Washi Information Exchange Meeting ★★★
A meaningful sales meeting bringing together Mino hand-made washi artisans and processing companies
New product development for Mino handmade washi begins!
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…
We participate as one of the processing-industry representatives in the “Mino Washi Brand Value Enhancement Study Group.”
Mino Washi can be broadly divided into three major fields: Hon-minoshi (traditional handmade paper), Mino handmade washi, and Mino machine-made washi.
Hon-minoshi and Mino handmade washi are made using a method called “nagashi-zuki,” and the artisans each run their own workshops and are active in the craft.
On the other hand, there is a challenge: it is difficult for the artisans themselves to dedicate enough time to sales and business development.
This time, the Gifu Prefecture Regional Industry Division, Mino City Mino Washi Promotion Division, and the Mino Washi no Sato Kaikan team—among others—organized this information exchange meeting. We are deeply grateful for the support of the Gifu Prefectural Government and Mino City Government in promoting the Mino Washi industry.
Mino Handmade Washi Cooperative Association — Official Website https://www.minowashi.or.jp/
On the day, artisans and processing companies gathered together and held a networking session with time blocks, meeting one company with one company at a time to mutually share their strengths and market needs.
Companies evolve every day, and market information also keeps advancing. By connecting each artisan’s distinctive handmade washi with our product planning and development capabilities, the exchange became highly meaningful and productive.
Every sheet of Mino handmade washi created by these artisans is truly captivating. Prompted by this exchange, we have already decided to move forward with collaborative product creation.
We plan to develop accessories such as brooches and earrings using Mino handmade washi from different workshops, as well as Japanese stationery like magnets and bookmarks, and we hope to start sales from spring.
We will share new products one by one in our email newsletter “Iki-Iki Tsushin,” so please look forward to it!
