Wonderful news from a group customer!
They kindly published a report about their experience at our Ishikawa Paper Goods workshop^^
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
The group of temple wives whose training trip we recently introduced in this newsletter
later featured their visit to the Ishikawa Paper Goods experience shop in a wonderful training report.
They chose two courses for their experience:
・“Washi Korokoro” – making adorable roly-poly dolls (okiagari-koboshi) from Japanese paper
・“Paper plate workshop” – freely collaging favorite patterns onto a washi paper plate.
On that day, after enjoying a relaxing time making Mino Washi crafts at our workshop,
the group was scheduled to hear a talk from the chief priest at Ogurayama Zenko-ji Temple in Mino.
Combining “time to move your hands and relax your mind” with “time to listen and calm your heart,”
it struck all of us staff as a truly wonderful training program.
One of the participants even edited a video of the paper-plate workshop
and kindly shared it online.
You can see how the plain white plates gradually transform into “one-of-a-kind works of art,”
and how everyone smiles when their pieces are finished – the warm atmosphere really comes through.
▼ You can watch the paper-plate workshop video here
https://www.ishikawa-shigyo.com/lsc/lsc-upfile/catalog/03/44/344_1_file.mp4
Experience reports put together from the customer’s point of view
show us “this is how guests feel when they visit,” which is incredibly encouraging for us.
They also give us hints like “we could improve this explanation” or “let’s adjust our preparation here,”
and all the staff read them gratefully^^
This is the printed handout from the temple.
For group use – whether for training trips, social gatherings, women’s groups, children’s associations and more –
we can flexibly arrange combinations of workshop menus and required time to match your theme.
As with this group of temple wives, we also recommend combining our workshop with visits to temples, shrines, and museums in Mino City.
If someone in your group asks, “Is it OK to take photos or videos during the workshop?”,
our answer is a big yes – we’re delighted!^^
And if you would like to share your impressions on blogs or social media, as this group did,
all the staff will be over the moon (really!)
We would be very happy if, as part of your training or trip,
you could spend “time to laugh together, compare your works, and create another shared memory”
here at the Mino Washi Craft Experience Shop.

Our hometown Mino City – special winter-only delights
The Hina Doll Stamp Rally and the “Kanzarashi” cold-water bleaching of Mino Washi
━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━…━
Winter in Mino City is a season of crisp, cold air and beautifully clear skies.
The historic Udatsu townscape shows a calmer, more serene side compared with summer or autumn.
What makes the winter streets suddenly come alive is the event hosted by the Mino City Tourism Association:
“Hina Dolls of the Udatsu Townhouses” & the Hina Doll Stamp Rally.
Throughout the Udatsu townscape, antique hina dolls and Mino Washi hina dolls are displayed in traditional townhouses, shops and under the eaves, creating a beautiful Japanese cultural scenery.
The stamp rally starts at the tourist information center “Banya,” where you can pick up a stamp sheet (free of charge).
Collect stamps while shopping and dining at participating stores; once you have five stamps, you can return to Banya and join a prize draw. Turn the capsule machine and you may win a small, exciting prize♪
Of course, the “Mino Washi Craft Experience Shop Ishikawa Paper Goods” is one of the participating shops. Please stop by to get your stamp and take a look around.
Another star of the winter season is the sight of “kanzarashi,” where kozo, the raw material of Mino Washi, is exposed in an icy winter river.
The white bark of the kozo branches is soaked in the clear, cold water of the Itadori River for many days to remove impurities, while being naturally bleached by the sun. It is an essential process for making high-quality Japanese paper.
In the past, this work could be seen in many places along the Itadori River, but today it is carried on as a winter event, held once a year by gathered craftspeople.
In near-freezing temperatures, the craftsmen step into the river and handle the kozo with great care – it is truly the “origin of winter Mino Washi.”
The paper born from fibers refined by midwinter water and light has a clear whiteness and a soft texture – you might call it “winter-born Mino Washi = kanzarashi.”
You can tour hina doll displays in the Udatsu townhouses, enjoy strolling through town with the stamp rally,
and, if the timing is right, go to see the kanzarashi process on the Itadori River.
After that, we would be very happy if you would also visit the “Mino Washi Craft Experience Shop Ishikawa Paper Goods.”
Inside the shop, we offer Mino Washi hina doll goods, Japanese paper accessories that suit winter interiors,
and hands-on experiences such as making Washi Korokoro hina dolls.
If, when you visit, you tell us “We came because we read the newsletter!”,
I might end up talking a little too much about how proud I am of Mino’s winter (haha).
The quiet of winter in Mino City and the festive sparkle of hina dolls.
And the story of the “midwinter river” that gives birth to traditional Mino Washi Japanese paper.
We would be delighted if you could take your time to experience and enjoy this special winter-only side of Mino City, Japan.

Below, we would like to introduce several examples of our past original products and licensed character collaborations.
◆ The popular professional baseball team Tokyo Yakult Swallows’ mascot “Tsubakuro” has become a Washi Korokoro doll!
Tsubakuro, the team mascot loved by Tokyo Yakult Swallows fans,
is now a star character in Japanese professional baseball thanks to his humorous expressions and playful gestures.
This symbolic character of the team has been transformed into one of our Washi Korokoro dolls as OEM Japanese merchandise.
Just looking at the doll will make you feel cheerful – a fun collaboration item combining sports, characters and traditional Japanese paper crafts.

◆ A character every Gifu local knows – the FC Gifu mascot has become a Washi Korokoro doll!
FC Gifu is a professional soccer club based in Gifu Prefecture.
Its official mascot character “Giffy” has been turned into a traditional craft “Washi Korokoro” doll made with genuine Mino Washi.

Guests can enjoy this item either as a finished product or as a DIY kit.
What’s more, the instruction sheet is available in both standard Japanese and a fun Gifu dialect version!
Gifu Bus (Gifu Bus Co., Ltd.), which operates local and charter buses mainly in Gifu City,
commissioned us to create this Washi Korokoro doll as a unique collaboration product.

Our Washi Korokoro dolls are designed as good-luck charms that stand back up even after they fall – a “nanakorobi yaoki” roly-poly style.
JAXA approached us with the idea of expressing SLIM’s lunar landing as an okiagari-koboshi roly-poly doll, and this concept became reality through our Washi Korokoro craft^^

Not only do we commercialize Washi Korokoro dolls, but original one-of-a-kind works are quietly being born from our Mino Washi Craft Experience Shop as well^^
We are constantly amazed by the unique creations that emerge from children’s free imagination during our Japanese craft workshops.
Instead of simply copying the samples, many children freely create their favorite characters and original motifs – that creative freedom is the true charm of our Mino Washi craft experience.
From now on, we will also feature these fun and inspiring works on our blog with photos, as examples of what can be done with Japanese paper crafts♪
Our popular product “Washi Korokoro” by Ishikawa Paper Goods offers limitless ways of expression, depending on the creator’s ideas.
Both children and adults can lose themselves in the joy of handmade Japanese crafts and feel like kids again.
Why not come to the Mino Washi Craft Experience Shop and create your very own original Washi Korokoro, using authentic Mino Washi from Gifu, Japan?
