A word from the editor — “Yamashita’s Yama”
Hello, this is Yamashita from the e-newsletter team.
People often come to me for advice. I’m still training since I’m not great at conversation, but
I’ve simply applied the posture I learned in my previous job as a nursery teacher, and it seems to make me easy to talk to.
I think this works not only in childcare but in any human relationship. First: “listen to the end.”
It’s surprisingly hard.
Most people love to talk—so it makes them happy when you let them.
Recent consultation topics included:
“I don’t know how to draw someone out; conversations stall; a date with a quiet person is boring.”
Conversation is catch—so you do need the other person’s cooperation.
You just have to get creative with the “ball” you throw. I offer choices. A common example:
‘Anything is fine for dinner’—that’s tough. I’ll reply, ‘Japanese, Western, or Chinese? I had Japanese yesterday, so not that,’ and naturally
they’ll answer ‘Chinese,’ or
‘Meat,’ etc.
I responded gently to my conversation partner as well.
“If there’s still no response, maybe they’re not your type—or not interested. Move on to the next guy! Right away! Let it go!”
You can say it’s about personality and mood, and that’s that. But if you want to be liked, don’t we try to look good, lift the mood, and make an effort? Is there really a gender divide there?
Well, with my limited experience, I’m not sure.
