We are a designated property within the Government-selected Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, located in the Udatsu Historical Streets.
Join us inside an Edo-period building featuring an “udatsu” firewall built in 1760, and enjoy a hands-on Mino Washi craft workshop together.
From solo travelers to groups up to 45 people (about one tour bus) can participate at the same time.
(For groups larger than 45, we recommend splitting time between a Mino City strolling & shopping group and a workshop group.)

One day while working in the shop, a close three-generation family stopped in front of our “Washi Korokoro” experience guide,
cheerfully discussing, “What should we make?”
“What would you like to create?”
I asked, and the high-school–aged daughter clearly loved handcrafts.
“Following the kit is fun, but trying an original design is wonderful, too,”
I suggested. After thinking for a moment, her eyes lit up and she said,
“Can we make this Washi Korokoro?”
She pointed to a not-for-sale model of the SLIM artificial satellite.
“We don’t have a kit for that, but we can gather similar materials and use the finished sample to craft the same thing,”
I replied, and she smiled.
“My little brother—who couldn’t come today—loves space. I want to make this as a present for him!”
We selected materials together and started the SLIM satellite project.
When I checked in during the session, everyone except the daughter had already finished their Washi Korokoro,
and the family brainstormed how best to build each part.
“How can we recreate the solar panels?”
“How should we attach the antenna-like parts?”
They steadily brought the design to life, discussing with great focus as the form took shape.
The finished work looked almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
I couldn’t help saying, “It’s hard to tell which one is the sample!”
Seeing a family join forces to make a gift for a beloved brother was a moment where family bonds took visible form.
I felt truly happy to witness it as staff.
Crafting while feeling the warmth of Mino Washi, and making something for someone special, becomes a lasting memory.

◆ JAXA’s SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) becomes an okiagari-koboshi (self-righting doll)!
Our “Washi Korokoro” dolls are auspicious self-righting crafts—fall down seven times, stand up eight.
“We want to express SLIM’s lunar landing as an okiagari-koboshi,” the client requested—so we made it happen with a Washi Korokoro. ^^
By achieving SLIM, humanity can shift from landing “where it’s easy to land” to landing “exactly where we want to land.”
In future solar-system science missions, even higher-performance instruments will be needed. To allocate more resources to instruments, spacecraft must be made lighter.
SLIM aims to realize pinpoint landing technology and a compact, lightweight spacecraft system, contributing to future lunar and planetary exploration.

Japan’s only immersive town-wide celebration of tradition and art—a must-see cultural event for autumn sightseeing in Gifu Prefecture.
This year again, right in the heart of Mino City—the Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition will be held.
Part 1: Sun, Oct 12 – Fri, Oct 24 (all submitted works on display)
Part 2: Sat, Oct 25 – Sun, Nov 30 (award-winning works only)
On October 18, there will be an awards ceremony for the top works, and streets in Mino will become pedestrian-only.
Hours: 17:00–21:00.
Once a year, the Edo-period “Udatsu” Historic Streets of Mino are wrapped in gentle light.
Quivering lights and rising shadows.
Luminous artworks made with 1,300-year-heritage Mino Washi line the streets, transforming the entire town into a dreamlike stage. Hundreds of works from across Japan shine with individual stories—an autumn night illumination festival cherished for over a quarter century and beloved as a hallmark of Mino’s fall season.
Each piece reveals a new expression as you stroll. In the crisp autumn air, a slow walk along the path of light lets everyday worries melt away. Time spent in this magical world is truly special.

Mayu “Mino” Diary — Summer Homework Battle 2025: Daughter vs. Homework Monsters

My daughter (5th grade) finally finished her summer vacation!
And with summer’s end comes the classic ritual… the last-minute homework battle.
Here’s a “comical battle chronicle” of our mother-daughter summer skirmish.
In early July, my daughter declared:
“I’ll finish all my homework by the end of July!”
—Bold intentions indeed.
Right before visiting her grandparents for Obon, she declared again:
“I’ll finish all my homework at Grandma’s!”
—Changed the battlefield, same strategy…
Three days before the end of summer break, I asked upon her return, “Is your summer homework done?”
“Out of 20 pages of ‘Summer Friend’ + 40 pages of independent study, 32 pages unfinished.”
A shocking revelation!
Thus began the three-day final battle.
She handed me her phone and declared,
“For these three days, I’ll focus on studying!”
Day 1: Four pages of the independent-study notebook—still relaxed.
Day 2: Conquered “Summer Friend!” But then the notebook went missing…
Day 3: Notebook found, but 15 pages remained at 8:00 p.m.!
Pressed for time, yet writing at her usual pace…
Finally, at 1:00 a.m. on the last day—
“Done! ^^” she announced with a beaming smile.
—Barely in time, but she fought to the end.
As her mother, I tried to preach “consistency every day matters,”
but my victorious daughter proclaimed a new goal with sparkling eyes: “Next year I’ll finish everything in four days!”
Uh, that’s not the point—!
