A quick note from the staff — “Yamashita’s Yama”

Thank you for your continued support. I’m Yamashita, the newsletter editor.

Recently, for some reason, I’ve gotten hooked on lace crochet. (Details in the 2/27 newsletter.)

Since then, I’ve been quietly crocheting little by little—and right now I’m making a flower about half the size of my pinky.
At first it looked like something unrecognizable—almost like fried chicken—but now I can create cute little flowers. Still, if I don’t finish it into something, it just stays “in progress.”
I’ve even gone out with it accidentally attached to my clothes without noticing. That’s dangerous. I need to complete it—but I can’t come up with a good idea. I scroll through Instagram and videos, and time just disappears.
I think, “Fine, I’ll make it into an accessory,” but then my inner voice taps my shoulder: “Accessories come in so many types!”

Even if I make it, Yamashita won’t wear it... So I thought: I’ll make it for a friend! Or maybe I’ll make something inspired by my favorite “oshi” theme. I bounced back—still working on it now.

It might turn into a big piece. Lace embroidery is really nice—easy to start, and even with the same pattern, changing the number of threads changes the size.
And what’s great about embroidery is: it’s an overwhelmingly inexpensive hobby to begin. Well—only at the beginning. There are so many colors that I keep a whole bag full of threads.
The old me used to say: “Even as a hobby, I’ll never touch embroidery or beads.” Where did that brave Yamashita go?

I’m sure she’s buried somewhere—so I might dig her up around autumn.
